Sustainability & Community
Our commitment to sustainability and community welfare
At T.M. Browne Ltd, we believe that our responsibility extends beyond constructing buildings. Our commitment to sustainability and community welfare is integral to our operations. As a leading construction company based in King’s Lynn, we are dedicated to implementing practices that not only reduce our environmental impact but also enhance the well-being of the communities we serve.
Sustainability & Environmental
The environment is rightly at the forefront of everyone’s agenda. The actions we take as a business have significant impacts, both in terms of the resources we use and the waste we produce.
A significant aspect of our operations across a wide geographical area involves vehicle usage, which heavily impacts the environment. By leveraging our resources to their fullest potential, such as vehicle trackers and our operatives’ electronic calendars, we can minimise our environmental footprint by reducing our journeys and, consequently, our fuel consumption.
At T.M. Browne Ltd, we adhere to our comprehensive Environmental Policy, which addresses all aspects of environmental stewardship. We recognise the environmental impact of waste and unused items left in properties. Therefore, we always strive to recycle as much as possible, either through our waste provider or by collaborating with other organisations. For instance, we have partnered with the Benjamin Foundation to recycle items that can be reused by individuals facing difficult times. Providing furniture or white goods to those in need supports them in creating a stable home environment, which is crucial for sustaining tenancies.
Moreover, we ensure that the materials we use are sourced sustainably and that they are products with verified life cycles, ensuring they are fit for purpose.
We are committed to continuous improvement and are always exploring new ways to reduce our environmental impact wherever possible.
Reducing Carbon Emissions
T.M. Browne Ltd is committed to reducing both our direct and indirect carbon footprint in accordance with the Climate Change Act 2008 and the Government’s Net Zero by 2050 initiatives. Our Directors provide strong leadership and accountability for our carbon reduction strategy, ensuring that sustainability is deeply embedded in our strategies and decision-making processes.
To support these efforts, we are currently developing a comprehensive Carbon Reduction Plan that reflects our business operations and outlines a clear path for continuously reducing our emissions to meet the 2050 target. This plan will serve as a roadmap, guiding us in implementing effective measures and tracking our progress over time.
Although we are not presently required to measure our scope emissions under the PPN 06/21 notice, we are proactively exploring ways to integrate these measurements into our carbon reduction planning. This proactive approach demonstrates our dedication to going above and beyond regulatory requirements and positioning ourselves as leaders in sustainability.
Through these initiatives, T.M. Browne Ltd aims to not only comply with governmental targets but also to set an example for others in the industry. We believe that by taking bold, proactive steps today, we can help secure a more sustainable future for generations to come.
Health & Safety
At T.M. Browne Ltd, health and safety are of the utmost importance. Our top priority is to ensure our staff remain safe at work and return home safely each day. We recognise our duty to communicate and consult with our workforce, and we do so through various methods including toolbox talks, safety meetings, and safety alerts via our texting software, ensuring that we reach all staff effectively.
Our larger sites undergo monthly inspections by an external health and safety consultant. These inspections generate an audit score, providing us with valuable insights and opportunities to improve, ensuring we maintain our high standards of health and safety.
We uphold our health and safety policy by conducting annual reviews, along with regular risk assessment updates. All new starters receive thorough inductions, during which they are briefed on their responsibilities and provided with training tailored to their roles. Training is then refreshed and monitored through our extensive training matrix, ensuring continuous compliance and safety awareness.
Social Value
As a family-run business that began small in our local community and has grown significantly over nearly 40 years, T.M. Browne Ltd understands the importance of people and community. Despite our expansion, we remain rooted in the same community, and this connection drives our commitment to bringing social value not only to our local area but also to the communities of our clients.
We promote social value through various initiatives, including employing local talent whenever possible, providing apprenticeships and work experience opportunities, and delivering career talks at local schools and colleges. Additionally, we support local clubs, sports teams, and charities through sponsorships and charitable donations.
To ensure our staff work in a safe and positive environment, our managers and directors are always available to offer support. We provide extra assistance through our Employee Assistance Programme, which offers 24-hour professional support for any challenges our staff or their families may face. Recognising the impact of the cost of living crisis, we are also trialing an employee benefits platform that gives our staff access to discounts at supermarkets, restaurants, clothing stores, and more. This initiative aims to ease financial pressures and enhance the well-being of our employees.
